Our friends have been asking for an update on how the paper bag floor turned out. We are very happy with how it looks. Here are a couple pictures of the process. I will post final pictures as soon as we get the baseboard on. All-in-all we got a nice looking new floor for the cost of 150 used grocery bags ($0) and 5 gallons of good floor polyurethane (about $125)!

That looks SO awesome! I can't believe that's the same basement.
So glad to have found another blogging MN compacter! That floor is gorgeous, and we might have to consider that option ourselves for our unfinished basement someday. Where is Unique, if you don't mind my asking? We're big Saver's fans.
What a fantastic idea! A consignment shop owner in Virginia, I've only recently heard about The Compact from several new regular 'shoppers' who were ecstatic to find our stores. Wow! Trying to brown bag my screened porch (completely under roof, little sunlight, no rain thus far). Subfloor is stained plywood, sanded for adhesion. Chose oil-based spar poly for outdoor conditions both for gluing down and topcoat. Tried sample board, but pieces are curling up on edges. Tried dipping pieces in poly, still curling. Any ideas?
I happened upon your blog while searching for brown paper flooring. It looks like its been about 3 years since you posted about your floor and I was wondering how it holds up? Do you still have brown paper bag floors? Does it look as good as it used to?
